FAQs
Q. Why is N.A.I.D. Certification so important to our company?
A. Because claims and promises are easy to make when there is no one checking. On an annual basis, we voluntarily submit to a critical review of our company. An independent security professional conducts an on-site audit of items such as employee background checks, policies, procedures, equipment, and insurance, just to name a few. This demonstrates making choices about information protection with care, diligence, and respect for the law.
Q. We have a recycling program; why should we shred?
A. Recycling companies are not designed to provide secure document destruction. There is never any proof that your sensitive material was destroyed. This becomes a serious liability issue for your company. Most recycling companies are unmonitored open-air facilities, use unlocked collection containers and unscreened employees.
Q. We don’t have anything to shred. Why would we need a shredding service?
A. All businesses have discarded confidential information and should be shredding or using a shredding service. Businesses generate customer lists, price lists, drafts, bids, payroll information, customer information, and memos, just to name a few.
Q. We use an office shredder; why change?
A. There is a number good of reasons:
*Business analysts agree that the outsourcing of non-value added jobs, like shredding, saves a company time and money. Eighty pounds of paper destroyed with an office shredder will take your employee about 6 hours to do. We can do it in just a few minutes and at a fraction of the cost. Now your employee is free for the more important jobs in the operation of your business.
*No equipment to buy or maintain, no messy clean up and no shredded paper to throw away.
*Protection against employee theft or unauthorized employees viewing sensitive documents while they are shredding.
Q. Will you pick up our documents or do we need to bring them to you?
A. Because we shred on-site, we come to you.
Q. Can we have scheduled pick-ups?
A. Yes, we provide free security container(s) for our repeat customers. The security containers are lockable with paper slots.
Q. Do we need to pay now or will you bill us?
A. You choose the option that is more convenient for you.
Q. What happens to the documents after they are shredded?
A. The shredded material is recycled.
Q. Can I witness the destruction of my documents?
A. Yes, you are always welcome to watch us work.
Q. Do you provide a Certificate of Destruction?
A. Yes, we do, immediately following the completion of the requested shredding.
Q. Does the Certificate of Destruction eliminate our legal responsibility and liability?
A. No, it does not. The Certificate of Destruction is support documentation for your Record Managers retention program and demonstrates “due diligence” on the part of your company.
Q. How quickly can you respond to our request for shredding?
A. Typically within 24 to 48 hours. We will support weekend, holiday and evening pick-ups if required.
Q. Should we remove the paperclips, rubber bands, staples, and fasteners from documents and files?
A. No, our industrial strength shredder can destroy these types of material.
Q. What size jobs does Secure Shredding do?
A. No job is too big or too small.
Q. Are there restrictions on the color or type of paper I can have destroyed?
A. No, sorting is not required.
